Signal Fires

4 SOLAR LAMPS FOR BAVNEHØJ ALLE, MUNICIPALITY OF COPENHAGEN

In ancient times, bonfires were located in elevated places, preferably on burial mounds. Back in the Viking Age, they were used as signal lights to call people together, among other things, when there was danger on the way. The work 'Bavnerne' consists of 4 solar lamps made of recycled materials, which brings the old cultural heritage of the Bavnehøj allé back to life. As if risen from the grave, the aim is, in both a beautiful and slightly eerie way, to create a connection to the life that was lived in this place long ago. Nowadays, their function is to be signal lights for the local community in the area, Bavnehøj.

The lamps are created out of almost 100% recycled materials, whereby the materials themselves also show a transformation from past to new life. They should remind us that we were born out of a world that was before us, just as we ourselves leave footprints for the world that follows us.
